If the Coolidge Bears were feeling good off their 70-12 takedown of the American Leadership Academy - Anthem South Titans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Coolidge took a 67-52 bruising from Gilbert Christian on Wednesday. Coolidge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gilbert Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Coolidge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tory Gholston. Despite the final result, he scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gholston has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Slaughter, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Keon Talgo was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with two steals for Gilbert Christian. Talgo hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Lopemi. Omole, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Coolidge's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Gilbert Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 13-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coolidge will take on Globe at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Globe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Wednesday. As for Gilbert Christian, they will play host again and welcome Benjamin Franklin, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Benjamin Franklin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Gilbert Christian is ranked 39th).
