The Shawnee Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Lima Senior Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shawnee will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Shawnee proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 24) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-45 victory over Wapakoneta. Given Shawnee's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Wapakoneta is ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shawnee found their leader in underclassman Beckett Bertke, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds. Bertke is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Goldsberry, who scored four points.
Lima Senior suffered their closest loss yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Ottawa-Glandorf by a score of 51-48. That's two games in a row now that Lima Senior has lost by exactly three points.
Shawnee's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Lima Senior, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Shawnee came up short against Lima Senior in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 69-65. Can Shawnee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
