Basketball Recap: Faith Christian Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Faith Christian hadn't done well against Humble Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Faith Christian Saints strolled past the Humble Christian Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 48-33. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Saints.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Faith Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Destiny Martinez, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 18 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Martinez a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Yulissa DelaRosa, who went 6-for-11 on her way to 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Faith Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 21 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, Humble Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lilly McMullen posted eight points and 24 boards. Humble Christian is 4-1 when McMullen posts ten or more rebounds, but 4-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Umanzor, who scored eight points.

Faith Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.6 points over those games. As for Humble Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Faith Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-31 win against Spring Baptist Academy on the 13th. As for Humble Christian, they have also already played their next contest, a 46-12 loss against Cornerstone Christian Academy on the 13th.
