Waccamaw is 0-10 against Dillon since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Waccamaw Warriors will be playing at home against the Dillon Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waccamaw had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 49-25 margin over Aynor. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Waccamaw has posted against Aynor since January 16, 2020.
Waccamaw's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyrese Haynes, who scored seven points along with seven steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Kettels, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Dillon entered their tilt with Manning with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Dillon came out on top against Manning by a score of 68-60 on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Dillon's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ta'norre Monroe, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, and Zamaurious Robertson, who scored 20 points. Jazier Walker was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine rebounds.
Waccamaw's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Dillon, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Waccamaw have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Dillon, though, as they've been averaging only 33.8 rebounds per game. Given Waccamaw's sizeable advantage in that area, Dillon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Waccamaw suffered a grim 69-44 defeat to Dillon in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Waccamaw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
