It was a good run, but the Spanish Springs Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to Flagstaff. Spanish Springs lost against Flagstaff in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 63-37 score last time.
Spanish Springs' loss came despite strong showings from Reese Wakefield and Layni Noonkester. Wakefield scored nine points along with six steals, while Noonkester scored 11 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Graham, who scored four points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Spanish Springs' loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Flagstaff, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Spanish Springs and Ventura will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Ventura will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Flagstaff won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Villa Park at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th. Villa Park will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 289th in California, while Flagstaff is ranked 22nd in Arizona).
