The Arrupe Jesuit Generals struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Fort Lupton Bluedevils had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Arrupe Jesuit was outmatched by the Bluedevils at home and fell 57-24. While losing is never fun, Arrupe Jesuit can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Bluedevils are ranked 108th).
Arrupe Jesuit lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bryan Astudillo-Pozos, who scored four points along with five steals. It was the first time this season that Astudillo-Pozos grabbed two or more steals.
Fort Lupton was led to victory by Gabriel Chavez and Javon Gonzales. Chavez scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Gonzales scored 13 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Gonzales also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Callahan, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Arrupe Jesuit and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for Fort Lupton, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Arrupe Jesuit will challenge the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Englewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday. As for Fort Lupton, they will face off against the Jaguars at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Josh Neely and Gonzales.
