It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the South Sumter Raiders had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Nature Coast Tech at home to the tune of 48-6. The win was familiar territory for South Sumter who now have seven in a row.
Ja?kyrian Turner was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 32 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Malakhi Boone, who gained 61 total yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was South Sumter's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Boone and his two sacks.
South Sumter's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-2 Vanguard and 8-3 Dunnellon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.7% over those games). As for Nature Coast Tech, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.
South Sumter's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Titusville at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th. Titusville will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Nature Coast Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
