Troup's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Childress, who threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. What's more, Childress racked up 163.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Brett Wells helped Childress out on the ground, rushing for 130 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries.
Another reason for the win was Troup's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Noble Kendrick, Caden Starkey, and Aiden Thibideaux, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Elkhart had to suffer through a 62-13 loss at the hands of West Rusk. While losing is never fun, the Elks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 971st, while the Raiders are ranked 314th).
Troup will need to focus on slowing down Javon Smith, one of several Elkhart players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 98 receiving yards and one TD.
Troup's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Elkhart, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Everything came up roses for Troup against Elkhart in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 46-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
