The Malcolm Clippers will take on the St. Paul/Palmer Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Malcolm is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Malcolm's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Palmyra 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Clippers, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brixon Meyer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Nolan Duzik, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Malcolm always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmyra only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, St. Paul/Palmer posted their closest win since March 28th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Raymond Central 8-7.
The team relied heavily on Zandyn Weller, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of St. Paul/Palmer's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Parker Lentz was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Malcolm is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Paul/Palmer, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Malcolm hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like St. Paul/Palmer struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Malcolm beat St. Paul/Palmer 14-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Do the Clippers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
