The St. Francis Indians will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
St. Francis pushed their score all the way to 42 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 66-42 defeat to Thunder Ridge might stick with them for a while.
St. Francis' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lucas Raile, who gained 285 total yards and two touchdowns, and Layn Todd who gained 202 total yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Klinzmann, who picked up 54 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Wheatland-Grinnell, who are still winless after their seventh matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 54-0 loss at the hands of South Central.
St. Francis' defeat was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-0 Rawlins County and 7-3 Sylvan-Lucas (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71.1% over those games). As for Wheatland-Grinnell, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
Everything went St. Francis' way against Wheatland-Grinnell when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as St. Francis made off with a 28-6 win. Does St. Francis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wheatland-Grinnell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
