The Lake Blue Streaks will face off against the Gilmour Academy Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lake 3, Gilmour Academy 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Lake is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over South. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Streaks.
Gianna Greathouse spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Olivia Brown was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Eisele, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South only posted a batting average of .240.
Meanwhile, Gilmour Academy waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They skirted past the Middies 6-4.
Gilmour Academy also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Camden Dreiling gave up just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. Dreiling has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aiden Pike, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Gilmour Academy pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Lake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Gilmour Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
