Herron had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-6 to make it four. They lost 20-8 to the Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Achaeans have suffered against the Raiders since May 13, 2022.
Evelyn Grimes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
As for Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter's side, MG Hawkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Hawkins was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Owen Finke was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Berkley Finke, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Coming up, Herron will head out to square off against Bethesda Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Achaeans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against McCutcheon at 5:30 p.m.
