Crestview hasn't had much luck against Champion recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rebels will welcome the Golden Flashes at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Crestview 4, Champion 0.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Crestview's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Southeast hitters got past them. The Rebels took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates on Friday.
Chloe Stoops and Alivia Shetler did some serious damage despite the final result: Stoops went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles, while Shetler got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerrigan Miller, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, Champion faced Boardman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Golden Flashes fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 2-1. The game marked the Golden Flashes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Gabrielle Gradishar spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ava Sylvester made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Champion fell to 9-1. As for Crestview, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1-1 and their overall record down to 10-3-1.
Crestview's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Rebels have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Champion, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Crestview continue to outrun the ball?
Crestview might still be hurting after the 17-6 loss they got from Champion in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Rebels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
