The West Johnston Wildcats and the Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Johnston is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
Last Friday, West Johnston lost to Cleveland at home by a 60-44 margin. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 534th, while the Rams are ranked 94th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Josh Dyson, who posted seven points in addition to ten boards and seven blocks. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian McFall, who put up ten points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear Christian Academy came up short against Grace Christian on Saturday and fell 71-59.
Like Cape Fear Christian Academy, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Lathan Wilborn led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Wilborn a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Kayden Dunkins, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 16 points.
This is the second loss in a row for West Johnston and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-3 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Johnston has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Cape Fear Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
West Johnston didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Cape Fear Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 59-55 victory.
