St. John Paul II is 0-4 against Franklin County since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The St. John Paul II Panthers will head out to take on the Franklin County Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. St. John Paul II is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
St. John Paul II had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt FAMU DRS on Monday. St. John Paul II never let FAMU DRS get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.
SANAA ROBERTS made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. ROBERTS was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That hit was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on SADIE DONAWAY, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. DANIELLE SASSO was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Franklin County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Tiger Sharks.
Like St. John Paul II, Franklin County also got a great game from a two-way player: Sarah Ham. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Ham has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Alexis Webb was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Micahlyn O'Neal, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Franklin County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matches.
Franklin County's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for St. John Paul II, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. John Paul II has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 14.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Franklin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
St. John Paul II suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Franklin County in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Can St. John Paul II avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
