The Superior Panthers will square off against the Mogollon Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Superior is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
On Tuesday, Superior got the win against San Manuel by a conclusive 18-8. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Barbie Ybarra, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Stephanie Lopez was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Superior always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Manuel only posted an OBP of .379.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Mogollon was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against St. Johns, falling 19-2. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Redskins: they've now lost three in a row.
Mogollon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kindsey Porter, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Superior pushed their record up to 15-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Mogollon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Superior has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Mogollon struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Superior might still be hurting after the 21-2 loss they got from Mogollon in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
