It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Emerson Mavericks had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 44-0 victory over the Eagles. Considering Emerson has won eight games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Michael Hawkins was his usual excellent self, rushing for 211 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, while also throwing for 201 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes. Hawkins' longest rush was for an incredible 95 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Canutillo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rene Huerta. Despite the final result, he rushed for 164 yards on only 15 carries. Huerta has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played.
The win was the third in a row for Emerson, bringing their record for this year to 10-2. As for Canutillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Emerson will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Rider at 2:00 p.m. on November 24th. One thing working in Rider's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six games. Canutillo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
