The Minooka Indians will head out to face off against the Plainfield East Bengals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Minooka is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Minooka took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Oswego, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers on Wednesday, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since April 23rd.
The team relied heavily on Jaelle Hamilton, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ava Nahs, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Plainfield East's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Plainfield Central on Wednesday. The Bengals' pitcher stepped up to hand Joliet West a 4-0 shutout.
Not much got past Jocelyn Cushard, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Joliet West off the board. Cushard has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kaleigh Cawthon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Plainfield East hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Joliet West struck out 11 times.
Plainfield East's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Minooka, their record now sits at 20-9-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Minooka hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Plainfield East struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Minooka got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Plainfield East by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
