Football Recap: Mack Dixon Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Ashdown

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Broken Bow, Idabel was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They took down the Ashdown Panthers 47-33. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Idabel's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mack Dixon, who threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.4 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 54 yards and one score. Jordyn Lewis was Dixon's top target, picking up 93 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one score on the ground.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Idabel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Idabel's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out Riley Williamson eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Chris Bloodsoe and Gio Gonzalez, who racked up six sacks between them.

Despite the loss, Ashdown still got an impressive performance from Williamson, who rushed for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 205 yards and three TDs. Bryson French was Williamson's top target, picking up 104 receiving yards and one score.

Idabel's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Ashdown, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Idabel wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 50-31 defeat against Holland Hall on the 26th. As for Ashdown, they have also already played their next contest, a 62-19 loss against Harmony Grove on the 26th.
