The Wildwood Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Hernando Leopards at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wildwood comes in on five and Hernando on three.
Last Wednesday, Wildwood strolled past West Orange with points to spare, taking the game 26-12.
Wildwood found their leader in freshman Zoey Brown, who threw for 155 yards and four TDs. Brown also deserves a shoutout for her performance on D, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception.
Wildwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Trinidy Harris and Brown collectively snagged three of those interceptions.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hernando). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 46-0 victory over Classical Prep. Considering the Leopards have won four games by more than 26 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Hernando's receiving core played a big role in the win, headlined by Carlie Grant and Alexis Sway. Grant rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown on only six carries while Sway gained 56 total yards and four touchdowns. An impressive showing, but Sway really ramped things up playing D: she picked up five sacks and made seven total tackles (6.0 for loss).
Hernando's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. Classical Prep's QB won't forget Sway anytime soon given she sacked her five times.
Hernando pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average over those games. As for Wildwood, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Wildwood strolled past Hernando in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a score of 20-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
