Basketball Recap: Papillion-LaVista Comes Up Short

Papillion-LaVista played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 83-62 to the Millard North Mustangs. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no points scored by either team from that point forward.

When it comes to explaining why Papillion-LaVista lost, don't look at Trey Richardson. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 10 on his way to 16 points. That's the most points Richardson has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of DeMarcus McCarty, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Derek Rollins was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-5 from deep and dropping a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds for Millard North. Rollins' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Coriahnn Gallatin was another key player, going 7 for 11 on his way to 20 points.

Papillion-LaVista has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Millard North, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Papillion-LaVista will challenge Papillion-LaVista South at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Papillion-LaVista South will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Papillion-LaVista surely won't give up without a fight. As for Millard North, they will square off against Benson at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
