Shenango and Riverside are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Shenango Wildcats take on Riverside Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Shenango put up the most points they have all season on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Aliquippa an 18-0 shutout. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Kennedi Lynn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Shenango let Zoe Offie and Emma Herb run wild. Offie scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Herb scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Herb has posted since back in April of 2024. Teagan Shippert was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Shenango hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aliquippa struck out seven times.
Riverside not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2024. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Freedom Area. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
Camryn Friello and Macy Greer did most of the damage at the plate: Friello scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances, while Greer scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Sproull, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Shenango's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4. As for Riverside, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Shenango skirted past Riverside 3-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
