South Haven has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the West Elk Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
South Haven pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Oxford 65-59. While losing is never fun, South Haven can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Oxford is ranked 100th).
Meanwhile, West Elk came up short against Remington on Tuesday and fell 54-44. West Elk has struggled against Remington recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Garett Usry, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddex Moreno, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
South Haven has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for West Elk, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Things could have been worse for South Haven, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 65-48 loss to West Elk when the teams last played on Saturday. Can South Haven avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
