Brandon Coley-Davis was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Coley-Davis was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for John Marshall: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, John Marshall let Oscar Carroll and Jamarques Singleton-Davis run wild. Carroll got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Singleton-Davis got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Carroll continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brice Johnson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
John Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson was able to grind out a solid victory over Armstrong on Tuesday, taking the game 11-7.
Markus Ingram made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graeme Cox, who fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (four). Thomas Dejnozka also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
John Marshall now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Thomas Jefferson, their record is now 5-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. John Marshall has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 11 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thomas Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
