If the North Callaway Thunderbirds were feeling good off their 63-37 takedown of the Wright City Wildcats last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Callaway's rough 71-45 defeat to Sacred Heart on Saturday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, North Callaway can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while Sacred Heart is ranked 138th).
Despite the loss, North Callaway still got an impressive performance from Sam Pezold, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Pezold is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Austin Brown, who scored five points along with two steals.
North Callaway has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Sacred Heart, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Callaway will challenge Mark Twain at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mark Twain is coming into the contest with nine straight losses at home, meaning North Callaway will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Sacred Heart, they will head out on the road to face off against La Monte at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sacred Heart knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully La Monte likes a good challenge.
