Baseball Recap: Palatine Beats Conant for Their Fifth Straight Win

Palatine waltzed into their match on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Conant Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-6 last Monday.

Joe Riley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jett Greiwe also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Riley wasn't the only one making solid contact: Palatine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for the Pirates: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Palatine's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Conant, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palatine will take on Wheeling at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Conant, they will square off against Hersey at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Huskies have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
