Flatirons Academy is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out to square off against the Forge Christian Fury at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Flatirons Academy lost to Manual on the road by a 42-27 margin.
Meanwhile, Forge Christian was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Prospect Ridge Academy 49-21. The result was nothing new for the Fury, who have now won four contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Flatirons Academy better focus on containing Quentin Torres and Treysen Eye as the pair were huge in Forge Christian's win. Torres gained 151 total yards and three touchdowns, while Eye picked up 175 receiving yards and two scores. Those 175 receiving yards gave Eye a new career-high.
Forge Christian's run defense was locked in: Prospect Ridge Academy could only muster 0.5 yards per carry. While three picked up at least five total tackles, Torres stood above the rest. He rushed for 97 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, and also picked up 54 receiving yards. Forge Christian didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.5.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Forge Christian, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Torres, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
The win made it two in a row for Forge Christian and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for Flatirons Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Flatirons Academy has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 178.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Forge Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 182.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Flatirons Academy took a serious blow against Forge Christian when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 42-0. Thankfully for the Bison, Sullivan Strange (who threw for 159 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
