The Melba Mustangs will challenge the Parma Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Melba is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Melba took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Vision 15-1. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with Vision recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kali Adams and Dickard Abi made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Adams struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Abi tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Adams got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Abi went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Melba got a massive performance out of Analyse Durham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kodi Adams, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Melba always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Parma waltzed into their match on Monday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pilgrims, sneaking past 3-1.
Wesli Crockett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Parma saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Parma's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Melba, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Melba has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Parma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Melba suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Parma when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
