The third road game was the charm for the Rivermont Collegiate Lions, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Morning Star Academy by a score of 33-26 on Thursday. Given Rivermont Collegiate's advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Morning Star Academy is ranked 539th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eamon Matlock continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Soulaymane El Jerari was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Morning Star Academy still got an impressive performance from Gavin Trotter, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Trotter hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Kellen Axtman, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Rivermont Collegiate is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. As for Morning Star Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rivermont Collegiate will face off against East Moline Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. East Moline Christian has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Morning Star Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Tri-State Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tri-State Christian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
