The North Star Cougars had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Windber by a score of 53-44 on Friday. This was payback for North Star, who suffered a 67-52 loss the last time these two teams met.
North Star's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brady Weimer led the charge by scoring 20 points along with two steals. Andy Retassie was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Windber lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tanner Barkley, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Scalia, who scored nine points.
North Star's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Windber, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Star will challenge the Comets at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Penns Manor will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 597th, while the Cougars are ranked 278th). As for Windber, they will head out on the road to square off against the Black Knights/Damsels at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Moshannon Valley is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
