On Tuesday, the Lane Tech Champions's game was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past Amundsen with points to spare, taking the game 52-34. Given Lane Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Amundsen is ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Melanie Blanco continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Yanna Bakritzes was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Amundsen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kate Frey, who scored five points along with two steals.
Lane Tech's win bumped their record up to 15-10. As for Amundsen, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lane Tech will take on Kenwood at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Kenwood is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. As for Amundsen, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Senn at 5:00 p.m. on January 25th. Senn is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
