The Newtown Nighthawks will face off against the Brookfield Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newtown comes in on three and Brookfield on six.
On Friday, Newtown made easy work of Immaculate and carried off a 12-1 victory.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Brookfield duked it out with Pomperaug on Friday. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 9-3 win. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Matt McDowell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Brookfield let Connor Jordan and Garrett McGovern run wild. Jordan went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while McGovern went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Jordan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Ackerly, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Brookfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in six consecutive games.
Brookfield pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Newtown, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Newtown might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Brookfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Nighthawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
