As the disappointment of a 64-38 home loss to Suburban North rival Hazelwood West began to settle in, Ritenour's
Alexis Minner gave Husky fans and her teammates something to paint the town with.
The senior guard tallied 17 points in the 26-point loss and scored the 1,000th point of her prep career in the process. Minner netted a free throw in the third quarter to reach the mark. After connecting on a charity toss during an earlier trip to the free throw line to chalk up point No. 999, it took Minner approximately five minutes to find the bottom of the net again.
"I really wasn't concentrating on the 1,000th point," Minner told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. "We were down so I was just trying to get the score back up, get the team back in it, and they wouldn't fall."
It took a while for Hazelwood West to pull away from the Huskies. In fact, Ritenour did hold a 16-15 advantage in the second quarter before the Wildcats put some distance between themselves and their league rivals with a 14-2 run to begin the third quarter.
Minner, a four-year starter for Husky coach Joe Scheidler, is averaging 17.6 points a game this season to go along with 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals.
