East Haven and Hand are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Yellowjackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. East Haven's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three games, but Monday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
While East Haven's win against Shelton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets never let the Gaels get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Friday. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Gaels recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hand). They blew past Hamden 18-1 on Friday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Grace Hall made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Alexa Young was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoebe Brennan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Hand kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win (which was Hand's third in a row) raised their record to 3-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Haven, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
East Haven came up short against Hand in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 6-1. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
