The Lakeview Gators will head out on the road to square off against the Winnfield Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Lakeview unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 69-59 to Mansfield. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lakeview came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Mansfield is ranked 204th).
Winnfield posted their biggest victory since November 28, 2023 on Monday. They claimed a resounding 70-39 victory over Jonesboro-Hodge on the road. The victory was nothing new for Winnfield as they're now sitting on six straight.
Winnfield relied on the efforts of Cl Davis, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Decavian Duncan, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Jackson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Lakeview's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5. As for Winnfield, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6.
Lakeview couldn't quite finish off Winnfield when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 54-52. Can Lakeview avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
