This season hasn't been kind to the Laughlin Cougars, who are still winless after their fifth contest. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 55-54 to White Pine. Laughlin lost against White Pine in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 51-41 score last time.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brett Schnitzler, who scored 14 points. Schnitzler scored a full 25.9% of Laughlin's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jason Castro, who scored 13 points.
Laughlin's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-5. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for White Pine, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Coincidentally, Laughlin and White Pine will both be playing Lincoln County the next time they take the court. White Pine will head out to face Lincoln County at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Laughlin will host them at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
