Covington is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Lakeland Preparatory on Monday. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 2-1.
Meanwhile, Evangelical Christian came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Crusaders 10-2. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyle Mabie made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Evangelical Christian let Caiden Caldera and Banks Addison run wild. Caldera went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Addison got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Addison is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Gates, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
Evangelical Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.
Covington's defeat dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Evangelical Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7.
