Basketball Recap: Reece Long's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lake Norman Charter over East Rowan

Lake Norman Charter lost against East Rowan back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lake Norman Charter Knights received a blow as they fell 72-56 to the East Rowan Mustangs. The Knights' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lake Norman Charter lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Reece Long, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds. The contest was Long's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Caroline Mercuri was another key player, going 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Lake Norman Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Lake Norman Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for East Rowan, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Lake Norman Charter will welcome South Rowan at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th. As for East Rowan, they and West Rowan will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. East Rowan is facing West Rowan at the right time seeing as West Rowan is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
