In what's become a running theme this season, the Gateway Eagles gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They breezed by Island Coast on the road to the tune of 76-9. Gateway's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Gateway's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was V'Davrielle Johnson, who scored 14 points along with nine steals and five assists. Johnson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kenyah Moss, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Island Coast saw an underclassman step up: Samarrah Desir scored eight points.
The win (which was Gateway's third in a row) raised their record to 11-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 45.67 points. As for Island Coast, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Gateway will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cypress Lake at 6:30 p.m. Island Coast won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Ida Baker at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Ida Baker focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
