A big part of Colleton Prep Academy's victory came down to the chemistry between Cale Owens and his top target Thomas Corbett. Owens threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes while Corbett picked up 205 receiving yards and three scores. Those 205 receiving yards gave Corbett a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Patrick Henry Academy played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Thomas Heyward Academy and fell 47-14. The Patriots were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.
Despite the defeat, Patrick Henry Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kai Sobey rushed for 94 yards and one TD on only seven carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 52 yards. Rylin Brunson got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brunson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Colleton Prep Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Patrick Henry Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Colleton Prep Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Patrick Henry Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 85.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Colleton Prep Academy beat Patrick Henry Academy 30-19 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Patriots' Mikell Tucker Mathis, who rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 128 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 passes.
