Baseball Recap: J.F. Webb Comes Up Short

J.F. Webb extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They came up short against the Carrboro Jaguars, falling 25-12. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 15-1 to the Jaguars when the teams met back in March of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

J.F. Webb got a massive performance out of Alijah Moss, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Moss is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-12 when he doesn't). Thierry Ovando was another key player, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Carrboro, they pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Carrboro's side, Evan Stowe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Stowe has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Andrew Jones was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Max Trojanowski, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

While J.F. Webb had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
