Ethan Trahan made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quinn Robbins, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Chris Quigg was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Horizon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaparral only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, in Thursday's Canine Competition, Desert Mountain prevailed. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Campo Verde 6-4.
Like Horizon, Desert Mountain also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Durben. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Durben has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Riyan Patel was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Everett Hagen, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Horizon's victory bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Desert Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 12-14.
Horizon skirted past Desert Mountain 6-4 in their previous meeting on April 5th. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
