Basketball Recap: Jayna Bowen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Parrish Community over Bradenton Christian

Parrish Community lost against Bradenton Christian back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Parrish Community Bulls came up short against the Bradenton Christian Panthers, falling 68-44. While losing is never fun, the Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Panthers are ranked 206th).

Parrish Community lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jayna Bowen, who posted 20 points and five rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of Parrish Community's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Lee, who put up seven points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Parrish Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Bradenton Christian had a senior duo take command as Taylor Blunden went 11 of 18 on her way to 28 points along with six assists and six boards and Lana Price dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Price has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Amelia Dammann was another key player, going 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and five steals.

Parrish Community dropped their record down to 6-12 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Bradenton Christian, they moved to 8-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Parrish Community will host Braden River at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Braden River will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Parrish Community surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bradenton Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-24 victory against IMG Academy State on the 10th.
