Hopewell is 9-1 against West Charlotte since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hopewell Titans are taking a road trip to challenge the West Charlotte Lions at 5:30 p.m. Hopewell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Hopewell didn't have quite enough to beat South Mecklenburg and fell 5-4.
Ellie Wicks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Kori West made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-5. Paityn Gilchrist also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
West wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Hopewell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Charlotte). Their pitchers stepped up to hand West Mecklenburg a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won six in a row.
Enijah Gary made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Gary was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
In other batting news, Taylor B was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Victelle M, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Hopewell's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for West Charlotte, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
West Charlotte's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hopewell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. It's a different story for West Charlotte, though, as they've only averaged .150. Will they be able to contain Hopewell's hitters?
Everything went Hopewell's way against West Charlotte when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Hopewell made off with a 20-5 win. Does Hopewell have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Charlotte turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
