On Friday, the Boulder Creek Jaguars faced the Sunnyslope Vikings in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Boulder Creek had just enough and edged the Vikings out 57-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Boulder Creek has posted since December 20, 2023.
Boulder Creek was led to victory by Matt Delgado and Rowan McKenzie. Delgado scored 13 points along with six rebounds, while McKenzie scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Brewer, who scored 13 points.
Despite the loss, Sunnyslope had strong showings from John Mattingly, who scored 17 points along with two steals, and Rider Portela, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Mattingly is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jai Anthoni Bearden, who scored seven points.
Boulder Creek's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-9. As for Sunnyslope, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6.
Boulder Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sunnyslope will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
