Basketball Recap: Teays Valley Christian Takes a Loss

If Teays Valley Christian was riding high fresh off their 71-28 takedown of Cross Lanes Christian on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Teays Valley Christian Lions were outmatched by the Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders and fell 84-52. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Crusaders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Teays Valley Christian lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Owen Jones, who posted 19 points. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ben Lewis, who put up 14 points.

Drew Fitzwater was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds for Greater Beckley Christian. Fitzwater is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. Kash Hendrix was another key player, going 6 for 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.

Teays Valley Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Greater Beckley Christian, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Teays Valley Christian will square off against Grace Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Teays Valley Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.1 points per game this season. As for Greater Beckley Christian, they will be playing at home against Midland Trail at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Greater Beckley Christian also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 65.8 points per game.
