Baseball Recap: Northwest Rankin Comes Up Short

On Thursday, the Northwest Rankin Cougars didn't have quite enough to beat the East Central Hornets and fell 5-4.

Northwest Rankin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Phillipson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Northwest Rankin's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8-1. As for East Central, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-8 record.

Northwest Rankin and East Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings. Northwest Rankin will challenge Petal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 47 places (61 vs. 14). Similarly, East Central (ranked 170th) will meet Columbia Academy (ranked 15th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
