The biggest upset of the week belonged to Montgomery Academy, who took down 173rd ranked LaFayette, 42-27.
Reeltown extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 5 this week by beating Isabella, 41-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Chase Cheaney and Cory Battle gave Horseshoe Bend a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Cheaney threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns, while Battle ran for 190 yards. Luke Holt also contributed to the rushing game with 16 yards on the ground.
Willis Knight was the best wideout in the league this week as Randolph County fell to the Generals. Knight racked up five receptions for 89 yards. Brad Benefield helped Randolph County's passing attack out by catching four balls for 52 yards.
The Tigers' Ty Sparks and Knight have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sparks has thrown for 1565 yards this season, while Knight, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 35 catches for 658 yards. Battle from Horseshoe Bend leads the league in rushing with 1283 yards.
Two of the top units in 2A Region 5 will face off this week when Jason Franklin's team takes on Lanett. The Generals' offense has scored 333 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Panthers have allowed only 81 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lanett takes on Horseshoe Bend. Clifford Story Jr.'s team is in second place, while the Generals are in third place.
Horseshoe Bend and Randolph County played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Horseshoe Bend eventually emerging with a 29-28 victory. Cheaney in the win.
