Stephenville has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on The China Spring Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Stephenville was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Life Waxahachie 59-19 on the road. Given Stephenville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Life Waxahachie is ranked 843rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Latrell Titus had a dynamite game for Stephenville, rushing for 167 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Ryan Gafford was another key contributor, throwing for 263 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes.
Meanwhile, China Spring had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past La Vega 52-49.
Stephenville's victory was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 5-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points per game. China Spring has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Stephenville couldn't quite finish off China Spring in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 and fell 38-36. Will Stephenville have more luck at home instead of on the road?
