Flag Football Recap: Monday's Victory Is Bellflower's 11th in Last 14 Outings

The Bellflower Buccaneers strolled past the Fairmont Prep Huskies with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 20-6. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Huskies are ranked 457th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bellflower got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jade Walker out in front who picked up 30 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 60 yards on only five carries. Walker didn't just play on offense: she also picked up a sack and made three total tackles. Another back making a difference was Zakyla Sloan, who rushed for 88 yards and one TD on only five carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bellflower was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Bellflower didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Andrea Del Castillo and Kendyll Upshaw.

Bellflower has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.9 points on average over those games. As for Fairmont Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Bellflower will venture away from home to take on Norwalk at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers' defense has only allowed 13.1 points per game this season, so the Buccaneers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Fairmont Prep, they will head out to challenge Fountain Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
